Ultra Lime Render Base Coat

Lime Green Ultra is a thermally insulating lime basecoat that can be used for rendering and plastering.

Ultra is a highly insulating lime render base coat that is five to ten times thermally more efficient than other lime renders by using lightweight glass bubbles instead of sand. This makes it the perfect insulating lime render base coat for building renovations, where it gives an additional insulation layer to external walls.

Lime Green's Ultra is such an effective insulator because it contains an aggregate of hollow beads made from recycled glass, which can make up to 55% of its bulk. This replaces the sand conventionally used in standard lime render and lime plaster, which means Ultra is still a fully mineral lime render, with all the normal benefits of lime, applied just like normal render. Ultra is applied to walls in the same way as other lime renders and lime plasters. It has good ‘workability' and there are no complicated fixings or problems achieving the right depth of coat.

Mineral

One of the reasons lime works so well is because it turns back into rock on your wall, so it has great breathability and durability and that's why we have made Ultra 99.5% mineral - it doesn't contain cork or anything else which needs protectingform the weather more carefully. It also means it is Class A1 for fire resistance as glass and lime don't burn.

Multiple Backgrounds

Ultra can be used onto brick, stone or wooden laths. It can build out in layers thick or thin (up to 30mm) and it contains fibres to help control shrinkage and movement.

Thermal

Because Ultra can replace old render thickness-for-thickness it can provide an invisible thermal upgrade. With a thermal conductivity of just K=0.11 (lab testing at 0% moisture) or k=0.178 (moisture corrected as per the British Standard) some typical real world reductions in heat loss on a traditional 9" brick wall would be:

10mm Ultra = 8% reduction in heat loss

20mm Ultra = 15% reduction in heat loss

40mm Ultra = 26% reduction in heat loss

You can contact our technical team for bespoke U value calculations free of charge. For a thicker option with 70% or better reduction of heat lost through the wall we also have our Warmshell External Wall Insulation.

Finishing

Lime Green Natural Finish is a popular option for a lightly textured finish in a range of colours. For a very smooth finish Lime Green Fine Stuff can be used, or a final option is simply to float the Ultra and paint with limewash or mineral paint.
